At home in the backyard | |
In 2000 we took down 2 large spruce trees from just in front of where the vines are now. In 2002 we removed the roots and sifted the dirt and augmented it to make quality soil. We also added to the height of the fence to provide better privacy. |
The plan was to establish shrubs, vines and perennials. A sneaky little chipmunk destroyed the beautiful white lily that was in front of the cedar. Annuals are weak this year.
Along the back wall of the house some perennials are coming along.
..a little later. |
A quilt hangs on the clothesline. We removed the line in 2004. |
The patio had some nice colour. This was the year purple blooms were paired with lime green foliage. |
This daylily named South Seas has a lovely bloom. We located her along the back fence. |
The iris plants were salvaged by David while on the job. Behind them is a Korean Lilac, a miniature lilac with a nice fragrance. Both provide lovely foliage all year. |
The original plan was the make a arc of these white peonies, but they look fine like this. The lily in the background is one plant that can keep up with the fast spring growth of the peonies. |
We have fun moving these around the garden every year. ...gives some place to drop the flower heads too.
The lanterns get used in the fall. Nightfall is an interesting time in the garden. David positions candles to highlight areas and create interesting shadows. |
